Pastoral care
The British International School strongly believes that healthy and happy students learn better, so we seek to support students not only in their academic studies, but also in their social, emotional and psychological development.
The School Nurse tends to the physical needs of students, providing expert medical attention or advice as required, and also providing the tender care and trusted support that young children sometimes need.
Each class has a Class Teacher who knows the students very well, monitors their welfare in close collaboration with parents and works with the wider teaching team to ensure that the students develop a sense of self-confidence, a healthy work ethic and respect for others.
Students are divided into “houses”. Each house consists of boys and girls from each class in the school, so that students have the opportunity to get to know and work with those who are older and younger than themselves. Teachers are assigned to houses to help coordinate house activities such as sports. They are encouraged so excel both individually and as a team in inter-house competitions, and, through collaboration, encouraged to appreciate the abilities and skills of others.
Students meet three times a day in the school dining room and this becomes a focus for relaxed social contacts with friends and others. Staff supervise is provided during breaks and meal times.
Weekly assemblies help the individual student to develop a sense of identity as part of the British International School Kiev. Service to others, kindness, helpfulness, initiative, creativity, generosity of spirit – all these things are recognized and rewarded, along with commitment to studies and academic progress, and achievement in sport and the arts.
Parents are always welcome at the school. We recognize that our work is to support you in the upbringing of your child to develop with you their abilities and character so they can achieve and meet their aspirations. We will provide an education that will allow your child to excel, realise their potential and make the most of the opportunities that life offers them.
