As Head teacher of the Pechersk campus, I trust you will find this website an informative and interesting window into our world and the future education of your child.

Our goal is to create a rewarding and fulfilling educational environment for students by providing relevant, challenging and thought provoking lessons, which prepare students to take their places in an international world as learners and thinkers. Our aim is to develop and harness each student’s natural curiosity so that they become efficient inquirers. Students will be provided with the intellectual skills, confidence and discipline they need to explore concepts, ideas and issues. In so doing we will help them to develop into successful thinkers, communicators and problem solvers.

Students following the International Baccalaureate educational model, will be educated rigorously so that they acquire the knowledge and skills equal to students in any other educational program. They will also be encouraged to develop independent learning skills, to bravely articulate their ideas and also listen to the ideas of others. As IB students they will become both reflective and open minded so that they will develop into knowledgeable and principled world citizens.

The Headmaster’s personal philosophy

I consider the job of head teacher to be the most rewarding in the world. It is hugely enjoyable to promote student learning by developing a community where a wide variety of academic, cultural and sporting activities allow students to develop their potential and acquire a wider perspective on the world. 

It is fantastic to lead a talented and committed staff within a beautiful new campus. The true heart of any school, however are the individuals within it; the purpose of education is to liberate potential. That is the way I lead: I have the highest expectations of the members of the school - both staff and students. I see my role as trying to bring the best out of everyone.

Headmaster’s profile

Educated in England, John Humphreys graduated with a BSc in Biological Sciences from London University and then completed his PGCE in Sheffield. Since 1987 he has been an educator, and administrator in many countries including England, Mexico, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and New Zealand, making him a truly international educator.

Mr Humphreys is an experienced A level and IB Diploma teacher, as well as having been an IB Coordinator, Deputy Head and Head teacher. Until recently he was the founding chair of The IB Association of Southern Africa.

His areas of expertise include whole school development and the International Baccalaureate.
